“YOU LOOK PRETTY TODAY!” Is a collection of original photo postcards by Howie Sneider. Digitally-colored and assembled 2023-24 at an artist residency on Prudence Island, RI.
These are pictures of old bunkers and military architecture that has been abandoned, discarded or left to re-wild. They scare me, and trigger a sense of the sublime through their stark and sterile surfaces, and the environmental and safety hazards that accompany them.
I find them deeply troubling and embarrassing. They are stains and scars on our landscape that represent the worst of human motivations. I document them to disempower them and to reclaim a narrative for nature, landscape and humanity.
